Clinical Framework and Cancellation Policy for Akhtar Counselling
Ethics
The counsellor must work in a framework that is governed by set rules, values, principles and personal moral qualities that ensure they practise effectively and safely. These should include key elements of being fair, trustworthy, sincere and treating all clients with respect and dignity whilst being open and honest.
Boundaries
Boundaries in counselling are agreed limits or rules which protect both parties.
Boundaries aim to create a relationship where you feel safe, and comfortable and can talk about your experiences and feelings, even if they may seem frightening or embarrassing to talk about. They set a formal structure, purpose and standards for the therapy and the relationship between you. The relationship you hold with your counsellor will be a professional one. They will not be your personal friend however, depending on the situation they may decide to share some personal information about themselves with you.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality in counselling is key to building trust between a counsellor and a client. Your therapist will listen to you in confidence and will not tell anyone else what you say. There may be certain circumstances when information about you may have to be forwarded, your counsellor will try to keep you informed throughout the process if this was to happen.

These can include the following:
-
If they believe you or other people are in danger.
-
When referring you to another healthcare professional for support.
-
If discussing their work with their therapeutic supervisor.
-
The client provided written consent to allow data to be shared.
-
If requested to do so by law.
Contracting
You should agree to a contract for all therapy, whether it’s face-to-face counselling or online. It should cover the following:
Practical details
-
How many sessions do you have and how often do you meet?
-
If there are any fees and how these should be paid.
-
What happens if you miss a session or if you wish to take a break?

Confidentiality
-
How your therapist will protect your privacy and when they may need to disclose it.
-
How they take notes for the sessions.
-
How they'll keep your data safe.

How you will work together
-
What issues will you work on together?
-
What approach or methods might they use?
-
What contact might you have between sessions?
Cancellation Policy
The cancellation policy is based on ensuring the services provided in the foreseeable future can continue to be affordable and accessible to all.

Late arrivals/missed sessions
The counsellor will attempt to call you depending on the situation of the therapy type if there is no answer, and no communication within 15 minutes your session will be cancelled without notice and charged fully. Late arrival timing will continue on the remaining time allocation per booking.

Cancellations
To keep costs low and practical a non-refundable policy is in operation and no appointment will be rescheduled.

Packages deals
If applicable, all package deals are non-refundable if the client wishes to cancel at any given time they are liable for the loss and the counsellor will not be held responsible.

Exceptional circumstances
Taking into consideration that emergencies do happen, please do let us know as soon as possible so the appointment can be more accommodating to yourself or others.

If the counsellor cancels
Rare circumstances might prevent the session from taking place, if this does occur the therapist will try their best to use alternative means or try to get in contact with you to reschedule the appointment that suits your convenience.
