About Your Therapist

About Me
I’m Akhtar, a qualified counsellor and counselling psychology practitioner working with individuals, couples and families.
My approach is engaged, exploratory and practical. Alongside understanding how you feel, we may examine how you think, respond to situations and relate to others.
I believe meaningful therapy can involve questioning assumptions, recognising recurring patterns and considering perspectives that may not have previously been explored.
How I Work
I work integratively rather than following a single therapeutic model.
Sessions may draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), person-centred therapy, psychological theory, trauma-informed practice and reflective exploration.
My role is not simply to agree or offer reassurance. Where appropriate, I will ask questions, explore inconsistencies and respectfully challenge ways of thinking or behaving that may be contributing to difficulties.
The aim is to develop greater understanding and help you make informed changes that are meaningful to you.

Areas I commonly work with include:
Anxiety & Overthinking
Stress & Burnout

What To Expect
Your first session is an opportunity to explore what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to understand or change, and how we might work together.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes and may be weekly or arranged at a frequency appropriate to your circumstances.
If you would prefer to speak before booking, a free 20-minute telephone consultation is available.
Taking the First Step
Starting therapy is a personal decision, and you may have questions before deciding whether it is right for you.
You are welcome to arrange a free 20-minute consultation to briefly discuss what you are looking for and whether working together may be suitable.
