Anxiety Counselling in London

Anxiety can influence how we think, feel and respond to everyday situations. While anxiety is a normal human response, it can become difficult when worry, fear or uncertainty begins to influence decisions, relationships and everyday life.
Therapeutic work can help you understand what is driving the anxiety rather than focusing only on reducing the symptoms.
Understanding Your Anxiety
Anxiety is rarely experienced in exactly the same way by two people.
During therapy, we may explore the relationship between:
-
Thoughts and interpretations
-
Emotional responses
-
Physical sensations
-
Avoidance and reassurance-seeking
-
Previous experiences
-
Relationships and interpersonal patterns
-
Current pressures and circumstances
Understanding these connections can help identify patterns that may be maintaining anxiety.
My Therapeutic Approach to Anxiety
I use an integrative approach, adapting the therapeutic work according to your individual experiences and needs.
This may draw upon CBT-informed approaches, person-centred counselling, psychological understanding and reflective exploration.
For example, we may explore a situation that creates anxiety and consider:
What happened → How you interpreted it → What you felt → How you responded → What happened afterwards
This can help identify automatic patterns and provide opportunities to consider alternative ways of understanding and responding to situations.
Looking Beyond the Immediate Symptoms
Therapy is not necessarily about trying to eliminate every anxious thought or uncomfortable feeling.
We may also explore why particular situations carry significance for you, how previous experiences influence current responses and whether certain coping strategies provide short-term relief while unintentionally maintaining anxiety over time.
The aim is to develop greater awareness, understanding and flexibility in how you respond.
A Collaborative Process
Therapeutic work is collaborative.
At times, this may involve providing space to reflect and process experiences. At other times, I may ask questions, explore different perspectives or respectfully challenge assumptions that could be contributing to anxiety.
The approach develops according to what emerges during therapy rather than following a rigid programme.
