Depression Counselling in London

Depression and persistent low mood can affect how you think, feel, relate to others and experience everyday life. It may involve reduced motivation, withdrawal, negative thinking or a sense of feeling disconnected from yourself and the things that previously felt meaningful.
Therapeutic work provides an opportunity to understand what may be contributing to these experiences and the patterns that can keep them going.
Understanding Your Experience
Depression does not have one single cause or presentation.
During therapy, we may explore the relationship between:
-
Thoughts and beliefs about yourself
-
Emotional experiences
-
Behaviour and withdrawal
-
Relationships and interpersonal patterns
-
Loss, change or difficult life experiences
-
Expectations and pressures
-
Confidence and self-worth
-
Current circumstances and lifestyle
Exploring these areas can help develop a clearer understanding of what may be influencing how you feel.
My Therapeutic Approach to Depression
I use an integrative therapeutic approach, adapting the work according to your experiences, circumstances and goals.
This may draw upon CBT-informed approaches, person-centred counselling, psychological understanding and reflective exploration.
For example, we may examine:
Situation → Thoughts and interpretation → Emotional response → Behaviour → Consequences
This can help identify patterns where negative thinking, avoidance or withdrawal may reinforce low mood.
Looking Beyond the Symptoms
Therapeutic work can go beyond simply trying to feel better in the immediate moment.
We may explore how your experiences developed, what meaning you have attached to them and whether particular ways of thinking or responding have become established over time.
Where appropriate, therapy may also consider relationships, previous experiences, loss, expectations of yourself and circumstances that have contributed to feeling stuck.
The aim is to develop greater understanding while gradually identifying opportunities for change.
A Collaborative Process
Therapy is a collaborative process rather than something being done to you.
There may be times when you need space to talk and reflect. At other times, I may ask questions, explore different perspectives or respectfully challenge patterns of thinking that may be contributing to how you feel.
The therapeutic approach develops according to your needs rather than following a predetermined programme.
