Clinical Framework for Counselling and Psychological Therapy
My Therapeutic Approach
My approach to therapy is integrative, active and exploratory, combining psychological understanding with thoughtful questioning and practical reflection.
Rather than relying on one therapeutic model, sessions consider how your thoughts, emotions, experiences, behaviours and relationships may influence one another.
The aim is not simply to talk about difficulties, but to understand what may be maintaining them and explore what could change.
How I Approach Therapy
Therapy begins with understanding your experience, but it does not have to end there.
We may explore how you interpret situations, respond emotionally, make decisions and relate to other people. We can also examine recurring patterns and consider where they may have developed.
Where appropriate, I may question assumptions, explore inconsistencies or respectfully challenge perspectives that could be contributing to difficulties.
This is a collaborative process. My role is not to tell you what to think, but to help you examine your experiences from different perspectives and develop your own understanding.
An Integrative Approach

I work integratively, which means therapy is not restricted to one particular method.
Depending on your needs, sessions may draw upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), person-centred therapy, psychological theory, trauma-informed practice and reflective exploration.
Different approaches can offer different ways of understanding a problem. Therapy can therefore adapt as your understanding develops rather than following a rigid formula.
Critical Thinking & Exploration

I encourage clients to remain curious about their own thoughts, beliefs and responses.
A thought or feeling can be important without necessarily providing the complete picture. Therapy can create an opportunity to examine different interpretations, consider evidence, recognise assumptions and explore alternative perspectives.
This can be particularly useful when you feel caught in recurring patterns, difficult relationships or ways of thinking that no longer seem helpful.
What This Looks Like in Sessions
Sessions are conversational but purposeful. There is space to explore what has happened while also considering what it may mean and what can be learned from it.
-
Depending on what you bring to therapy, we might explore:
-
Recurring thoughts and assumptions
-
Emotional and behavioural responses
-
Relationship and communication patterns
-
Past experiences and their present influence
-
Different perspectives or interpretations
-
Practical changes you may wish to make
The direction of therapy develops collaboratively and remains responsive to your individual circumstances.
